Sri Lankan Army together with Russia’s Eastern Military District's Combined Arms Army have successfully concluded a bilateral joint military exercise Wolverine Path-2026 on the territory of the Russian Federation, marking an important stage in building friendly relations between the military of the two countries.

During the drills, units of the special operations forces of Sri Lanka and the Eastern Military District's Combined Arms Army of Russia shared their skills in firing of various types of standard weapons, the bases of military tactical firing, and demonstrated offensive and defensive actions. The joint training programme also included tactical medicine, engineering training, employment of motor vehicles, and buggies. Particular attention was paid to the training of drone operators. In their turn, the Sri Lankan servicemen shared their methods of warfare with small groups in mountainous and forested difficult terrains.

The Wolverine Path 2026 joint exercise was held for the first time in Russia and lasted from 22-27 September, 2026 at the Sergeyevsky training ground in Primorye which was a significant development in strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries. In addition to joint training tasks, the exercise included a series of cultural and sporting events aimed at strengthening friendly ties between the military contingents of the two countries.
